Description

It's time to put everything from this course into a plan you can use, and assign tasks. This lesson will focus on your longer-term planning.

1. Introduction

A month-by-month plan can be a useful tool for forecasting what needs to happen over the Toastmasters year. Combined with the officer MBM, you'll have a clear set of objectives for each month that your officers and committees to accomplish.

2. Month-By-Month Plan Tips

Your club's MBM plans will be built based on the work you do in the two week startup, as well as events in the Toastmasters year such as contests, renewals, elections, due dates for DCP goals, and so on. You can also include the MBM plans of the club's officers in your club's master MBM.

Some tips for composing and using MBMs:

  • Make your document available to all officers via a service like Google Documents or similar.
  • Sort your MBM by month, then committee/office. (For example: December, then President, VPE, VPM, etc.)
  • Any major Toastmasters event (renewals, contests, etc.) need at least two months of lead time, so factor that in.
  • Include follow up or verification actions as necessary. For example, if dues are due, the treasurer should make sure these are being collected, but the president may need to make sure (in committee meeting, possibly) this is done.
  • If your team decides to do monthly Moments of Truth reviews, include those.
  • Review progress on MBMs at monthly officer meets or one-on-ones.

A starter sample plan is available in the resources in DOCX format.
